Pandit Hiralal Shastri, inspired by Gandhian ideals, left his prestigious post in 1927 to begin rural reconstruction in Banthali. After the untimely death of his daughter Shantabai in 1935, he founded Shri Shantabai Shiksha Kutir with six girls, continuing her dream of women’s upliftment. Renamed Banasthali Vidyapith in 1943, it introduced undergraduate courses that year and was granted deemed university status in 1983. Recognized for its practical, value-based education, it now offers programs from pre-primary to doctoral level. Guided by the Shastri family, it remains India’s only fully residential women's university and holds an ‘A’ Grade accreditation from NAAC.

Banasthali Vidyapith was founded to promote nation-building and preserve Indian culture, guided by the ideals of Nationalism and Indian ethos. Its unique *Panchmukhi Shiksha* model emphasizes five-fold development: Physical, Practical, Aesthetic, Moral, and Intellectual. This holistic approach fosters balanced growth beyond academics. Blending spiritual values with scientific knowledge, the curriculum harmonizes Eastern and Western thought. Campus Life
Established in 1935, Banasthali University is a premier women’s institution spread over 850 acres, offering a fully residential and self-sufficient campus. Divided into University, School, and residential zones, it includes 29 hostels, staff quarters, and a Working Women’s Hostel. The campus features vast sports facilities, a swimming pool, horse riding, and a licensed airstrip for flying training. It houses a Central Library with over 1.6 lakh books, ‘Radio Banasthali’ FM station, and Apaji Arogya Mandir hospital. Advanced IT infrastructure, transportation, guest accommodation, banks, ATMs, a post office, and courier services contribute to a holistic living and learning environment.

Banasthali Vidyapith, a national center for women's education for over 75 years, follows the Panchmukhi Shiksha model for holistic development. Physical education includes yoga, martial arts, sports, riding, and flying. Practical education involves crafts like embroidery, cooking, and community work. Aesthetic education fosters creativity through music, dance, and art, supported by a full orchestra.
